Maschinen Krieger Shipment Arrives

My Ma.K shipment from Japan arrived yesterday.   Took only 3 business days!   Shipping via EMS is expensive, but it sure is damned fast! :-)

I inspected the Melusine boxed set and found no figures with a sticky sealer coat but I'm going to have to open that huge 24 figure Fireball SG set and check out each individually boxed figure inside.

As suggested by my sister, I used the webcam to take images since my regular digital camera is out of commission.

The Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 actually does a pretty good job.   However, I did compress the heck of the photos when coverting to JPEG for the sake of keeping download times short.

I suspect that with a proper lighting and backdrop, I could make do with the QuickCam.   It can even do captures of up to 8 megapixels so resolution certainly isn't an issue.

Normally, I'd have to bracket my photos, take multiple versions and choose which one looks best.   But since I can see exactly how the picture will look before I take it, it actually took me less time to take these photos than with my late Canon Powershot A60.

quickcam_macro_demo.jpg It has amazing macro shooting capability for a web cam; doing a good job despite me holding and aiming the QuickCam by hand.

So it looks like I can put off the camera purchase for a little while longer.

Maschinen Krieger Ships Out

My B-grade Maschinen Krieger boxed sets have shipped from Japan but boy did I get hurt on shipping! cSjn7WZWjYY6

Because the shipment is over 2kg, I don't get the option of having them ship via SAL (Sea/Air/Land) service, which takes significantly longer but costs significantly less as shipments are made on a space availability basis by the carrier.

The troops are coming in via EMS (express mail service) so they'll be fully tracked and they'll get here quickly but at a cost... and boy, what a cost!   The shipping charges ended up being more than what the entire shipment is worth!   The Ma.K boxed sets totalled approximately $40 USD and EMS shipping ended up being $47 USD!

Maybe I shouldn't complain since under normal pricing conditions, these Ma.K sets would have cost about $195 USD, and I'm getting them for about $90 USD delivered--- with some minor clean-up and re-sealing work required.

Here's what's in the shipment (starting from top left to bottom right)

  • Images 1-4 : Fireball SG figures (1 x 24pc set, random packed)
  • Images 5-6: Gladiator Assault Camo Prototype - Four-legged mecha. (1 x 1pc box)
  • Images 7-8: 10 x Melusine DCU figures (2 x 5pc. set)

The Fireball set has twenty-four 1/35th scale figures and that's quite a lot.   Maybe I'll sell off half of them on eBay and recoup some of the cost in shipping.

New Wish List Resin Figures Available

It figures (no pun intended)...     Just when I ordered over $50 in books from Amazon.ca, two figures on my e2046.com wish list are finally made available. cSjn7WZWjYY6

Great... just when I want to cut down on my spending so I can jump into the new MMO "Warhammer: Age of Reckoning" with a couple of friends.

Kurenai from "Red Ninja"

Azul Gunner with Bow from Monster Hunter

Azul Series Ganner version with Bow from "Monster Hunter"

I'd pass on these kits but availability is a problem as these kits are produced on a demand-only basis, which means if you miss ordering the kits while they're in stock, it could be months (and sometimes a year or more) before they're made available again.   On the some occasions, kits are never issued again.

I've put off ordering the Kurenai kit for about two years now and the Azul kit is a new offering from one of the Wonderfest shows this year.

Looks like the wallet will take another hit.

Camera Is Alive and Ma.K Sale at HobbyLink Japan!

Now that my camera has returned from the land of the dead, (EDIT: No it's not.   The camera is dead again.)   I can now start writing reviews on recent purchases again! cSjn7WZWjYY6

Hobbylink Japan is currently having a 70%-85% sale on defective Maschinen Krieger 1/35th box sets!

Boxed Sets of 24 Ma.K figures that normally sell for ~USD$120 are now going for as low as ~USD$18!

According to HLJ, the manufacturer had a problem with the sealer coat with some figure sets resulting in the paint application becoming sticky over time.

HLJ posted an easy fix (simple clean-up with enamel thinner) and it's trivial matter to re-seal the figures with a proper sealer coat.

These Ma.K figures are in 1/35th scale (a common military modeling scale) so off-the-shelf military vehicles, figures and accessory sets can be used for figure modding, diorama creation and so forth.

If you're a Ma.K or mecha/powered armour fan, now's the time to buy!   Quantities on these are limited!

Triad Toys Otaku 1/6 Female Body Now Shipping

Triad Toys has begun shipping their new 1/6th scale Otaku v1.0 Female Body. cSjn7WZWjYY6

You can find higher quality images on Triad Toys' Otaku product page. (Update: Product no longer listed)

The Otaku body's primary focus isn't so much articulation but aesthetics with revealing outfits.   That's why the figure lacks some common torso articulation.

I'm not fond of the head, and I think the breasts are too large but these aren't serious issues since this body is intended as a foundation product upon which a custom figure is built, so changes by the buyer are expected to be made.

I've ordered two Otaku bodies for my resin kit conversion project which involves converting some hand picked static 1/6th scale resin kit figures into articulated figures.

Zukeimura Glass Eyes

Want your dolls to have an even more unnerving quality? Install a pair of Zoukeimura Glass Eyes in them!

Their design enhances the "following gaze" effect.

(That doll is of Shinku from the Rozen Maiden anime series by the way.)

Zoukeimura Glass Eyes are like the Rolls Royce of doll eyes. They're high quality glass eyes that go for anywhere from USD $100 to $150 a pair!

They're available through Volks but only if you purchase a Full Choice System Doll; a rather hefty investment considering FCS dolls start at around USD $500 and go as high as USD $1,000 and beyond!
